It is a very common thing for people to have nightmares or evil dreams and be scared when they are awake. Even if this is how the world reacts to evil dreams, should Christians also do the same?

In my opinion, it is an insult to God when a believer wakes up from a nightmare or terrifying dreams and from that moment begins to live in fear or expect harm to come his/her way. 

Sometimes, when the kingdom of darkness wants to attack a man or a believer, the first thing they do is to use the weapon of fear by projecting a very horrifying dream to such a believer. The moment such believer wakes up and allows fear to dominate him and even begin to expect that evil might happen, such a believer has just aligned his mind with the plans of the kingdom of darkness, and since there is an alignment, the enemy will strike immediately or almost immediately. When such evil eventually happens, the believer then says “It is God’s will” because God showed it to them.

The truth is that nothing evil that happens to a man is God’s will. God only permits some evil occurrence to happen to some believers if it is going to bring good, promotion, testimony or Glory to His Name out of such trials. Jospeh is a good example of this. 

John 16:33— “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have tribulations. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Comments: evil dreams and nightmares are part of these tribulations, because if not dealt with, might translates into something catastrophic in a man’s life.

God is never the author of evil, hence let no man say that God brought them evil dream. Ignorance is what is playing here on such believers.

James 1:13— “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempted he any man”. 

Comment: It is the devil that tempts people. He tempted Jesus who was God in human form after 40 days of fasting and prayer, how much more will he not tempt.

So, anytime you have an evil dream, just know that the enemy is trying to do to you exactly what you saw in that dream, so when you are aware of this, wouldn’t it be naïve to become scared, instead of enforcing the victory that Christ Jesus has given to you on the cross over such proposed evil? This is what differentiate victorious believers from defeated believers.

The following scriptures are reasons why no Christian should be intimidated by evil dreams, and the basis on which we have our victory over them.

Psalm 121:5-8---“The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

(v6)-The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

Comment: Evil dreams are arrows programmed by the kingdom of darkness to harm a man by night. But in this verse, here is God assuring us that, no evil that can harm us by the day (sun) nor by night (moon). This is an assurance of a 24/7-hour protection from God. Since God has assured you of His protection during the night, why do you think evil dreams at night can work against you? Or why do you think after waking up in the day from that evil dream at night, that it will manifest in your life during the day? 

(7)-The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he will watch over your life.

Comment: evil that comes as nightmares, evil dreams or any other form in the day or night can’t hurt you. This verse said, “all evil” not “some evil”. So why are you scared of evil dreams, When He had promised to deliver you from all evils including the nightmare you just had? Wake up

(8)-The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Comment: even if they lay ambush for you, they will scatter before you reach there. This is confirmed also in Isaiah 54:15—Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. And this is why God said in this verse 8 that you are protected by him as you go out and as you return back.

Apart from evil dreams, why do you think that any evil the enemies are plotting against you in the day or the witches and occultist that gather at night to harm you can succeed? They can’t because you have the continuous unbreakable chain of God’s protection around you.

Luke 10:19— “Behold I have given you power and authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”.

Comment: this is a further re-enforcement to the Psalm 121:5-8. Jesus has granted His followers the power and authority to subdue and overcome harmful spiritual forces and physical dangers in the day and night. Note again, He said “and over all the power of the enemy”. This is exactly what He still said in Psalm 121:7. 

The evil powers that attacked you during the nightmare you had, the witchcraft and occultic people that gathered against you at night and in the day, Jesus had given you the authority to subdue them all. Are you using this authority? He even went further to say, “Nothing shall by any means hurt you”, which is also a confirmation of Psalm 121:6 that says, “the sun shall not smite (harm) you by day, neither the moon by night”. So, there is no evil that walks by the day or night that can harm you. Why this, do you still need to be scared of evil dreams or the evils that walk at night? 

Just rise up and use the authority Christ has given unto you and live a victorious life.

Mark 16:18 (NIV)—They will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they shall recover.

Comments: These are the signs presented as following any Christian who truly believes in His name. It is not limited to the disciples of Jesus alone when He commanded them to go and preach and the gospel.  He commanded every believer to do same, hence, also gave every believer same power and authority cast out devils. 

With this, you don’t need to be in panic because you ate food in your dream.  Just plead the blood of Jesus to neutralize any satanic poison in it, because His word said even if you eat anything deadly which includes the food you ate in your dream, it can never hurt you. This is God’s promise of supernatural protection and power given to those who have faith in Him.

With this powerful understanding that the Holy Spirit has given unto us, as a Christian, no dream should scare you. In fact, nothing in this life called evil should be over able to overcome, because you have just been equipped with every arsenal needed for you to enforce your victory. Every victory has been given; it’s just for you to enforce it.

This morning of today that God gave me this message to you, I was attacked in my dream by someone I never knew in life, and I attacked her back in the dream then I woke up. The moment I woke up, I never was scared but instead burst into prayers with quoting of scriptures, and guess what happened? The standing fan in my room that was off for some hours now, was turned on by itself and the fan started blowing. This was enough to frighten me, right? But I wasn’t because God had filled me with this message. He just delivered to you now through me.

Don’t have any reason to be scared of the devil. Though he has power to harm you, but you have both power and authority to stop and crush him from harming you and to send him into exile from your sight. You carry the double-edged sword of power and authority, while he carries the single edged sword of power alone. So are more equipped. 

But are you using your sword? It is sad that many Christians has this doubled-edged sword but are not using it, and those that want to use it, don’t know how to. But with this teaching, you have been empowered in Jesus' name, Amen.
